The results from the hybrid-electric ambulances have exceeded the City’s expectations. With this recent success, the City is ordering up to 10 more vehicles this year, including Ford Transit vans equipped with XL Hybrids systems for the Seattle Department of Public Utilities.
The new Ford E-450 mini buses up-fitted with XL3 hybrid drive systems are welcome additions to BRTA’s current hybrid fleet including support sedans and sport utility vehicles as well as 35-ft heavy duty fixed route buses.
“After careful evaluation, one of the technologies we chose was XL Hybrids because it’s virtually transparent to our fleet operations. There are minimal maintenance requirements, no range limitations and no special fueling infrastructure. For this reason, the County is ordering an additional four vans this year.”
The 25 hybrid electric vans are being used at various Montgomery County departments, including passenger service, law enforcement, facilities maintenance, as well as for plumbers, electricians and road safety crews.
